My Grandmother’s Los Angeles House, 1905
My mother’s mother didn’t like to throw anything out. Charming in a grandmother whose untidy and over-stuffed house was always a source of amusement to a chil., I find, in my own life, that this inherited character trait amounts to a burden. I save too much. And so did my grandmother. Fortunately, though, aside from stacks of newspapers and bins filled with sweaters, she also saved her family’s photographs — an extraordinary collection of negatives and prints of Los Angeles in the first decade of the twentieth century. My grandmother grew up in a house in downtown Los Angeles. Here are a set of photographs of the interior of the house taken in 1905.
