A Few Valuable Vegetable Gardening Links

The Internet sometimes seems to be an endless loop of self-referential links. There are a huge number of gardening sites on the internet, and pages and pages of links to links. The few sites listed here are the ones I refer to often. They are mostly University Agriculture Extention web sites. I have included sites from different parts of the United States. As a rule, check the site that would be most likely to serve your climate zone. This said, the UC Davis Small Farm Center is always worth visiting. In many ways, Agricultural Extension web sites serve the function that the gardening calendars served in the past.

University Agricultural Extension programs are often a rich source of information on how to grow vegetables in the home garden. The sites I list here are particularly good ones, although I have by no means searched every US university extension program. Let me know if there is a good site for the gardener that I have missed. I would be particularly interested in adding a site for the South.

Cornell Vegetable Growing Guide
A tremendous resource for the home gardener.

UC Davis Small Farm Center
Photographs and good information on selected vegetables. This site is particularly suited to those of us living in areas with mild climates. Information on other crops can be ordered for delivery by fax or mail.

University of Illinois Extension
Good information for the home gardener.

University of Oregon Department of Agriculture
More oriented towards commercial farmers than the UC Davis Small Farm Site, but has useful information.

University of Wisconsin Heirloom Plant Archive/lList
At this time the list of of peppers and tomatoes. There are photographs and descriptions of hundreds of pepper and tomato species.
